CVUSC Select Team Program

The Upper Vancouver Island League takes place between September and March every year. Players are selected on an annual basis and each year there are new tryouts. Tryouts will take place over the course of June 2008, with dates and locations to be announced at the end of May. Once selected, players will be expected to train twice a week (starting in September) and be available for play on Sundays throughout the season with a short break around Christmas time. They will travel to other communities as well as host teams from other North Island communities as part of league play. They will also participate in both Provincial and Island Cup play downs.

Parents will be expected to volunteer with various aspects of the teams' participation in league play. This could mean taking a turn at putting up and taking down nets or assisting in the lining of the field for home games etc.

PLAYING UP

Younger players must be assessed in the top 3 to be considered for a spot on an older team. Players wishing to play up must request an assessment in writing (letter or email) addressed to the VP Development. Players still need to try-out for their own age and gender group.

NEWCOMERS  

If you are new to the Comox Valley, having moved here over the summer months, and are interested in being evaluated for placement on a select team, this is the process:

* Parent needs to contact on of our VP's Select Paul West at plwest@shaw.ca or Charlene Davidson at youngcougars@shaw.ca or VP Development (open position)

* VP Select to contact Select Coach and confirm practice time, date & location

* VP Select to form evaluation team made up of three qualified persons, 1 being select coach of team, who will attend try-out session and determine if athlete is suitable for placement on team.
