A Message from our U15 Boys Wolves

We, the u15 boys select team had a goal to participate in the Golden Goal Soccer Tournament in New York State in July 2009. Our membership had generously made donations to our team through the pancake breakfast we hosted in the fall of 2008. Due to the world economic downturn and the uncertainty this as brought, we are not able to make our trip. We as a team value the support we received from our members and will be making a $500.00 donation back to the club in support of the all turf field project. This donation is on behalf of our team and our members and will contribute to the construction of this field sooner than later.

Thanks   Steve Betts U15 coach

Our House Spring Soccer Season has kicked off successfully on April 4th.  Lots of new coaches, lots of new vibrant uniforms, Ash's coaching clinic were well attended, well over a thousand registered players in our house system...there's lots to be excited about. Thanks again to everyone for making house soccer as great as it is.

House "Coach of the Month"
april coach of the monthCongratulations to Sam White for being selected "Coach of the Month" for April. Sam White was born to coach. She brings incredible enthusiasm, a love of soccer, a passion for children's fitness and a natural instinct for motivating young children to her second season as a Micro's coach. She seems to know instinctively how to engage 5 and 6 year olds in fun play. On opening day during Spring season, her eager "Team USA" players learned another important value from Sam - it's about the team! Sam prepared vibrant name tags to make each player feel special and then led her micros through activities to help them learn each other's names. Thank you Sam for sharing your talents and energy!

Coning the fields

Our experiment of coning the fields only once and handing cones from coach to coach has proved to have a few glitches.  In many cases, the process has served it's purpose of freeing up more time for coaches to initiate player warm ups rather than having to re-cone the fields. Problems arise when coaches arrive a minute or two before the start of a game resulting in the departing coach to have to wait around for their cones. Coaches are urged to arrive earlier to the games to facilitate the process.

Police Record Checks

A deadline of Fri April 24th has been set for coaches to have their Police Record Checks processed and into the club. Coaches not having done so by that date will not be allowed to coach. This is a formality intended to ensure that no club member is exposed to at any undue risk.

Fair Play Code Reminder For Parents

  • I will not force my child to participate in sports
  • I will remember that my child plays sports for his or her enjoyment.
  • I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will teach my child that doing one's best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game/event.
  • I will make my child feel like a winner every time by offering praise for competing fairly and trying hard.
  • I will never ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • I will remember that children learn best by example. I will applaud good plays/performances by both my child's team as well as their opponents.
  •  I will never question the officials' judgment or honesty in public.
  • I will support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children's  sporting activities.
  • I will respect and show appreciation for the volunteer coaches who give their time to provide sport activities for my child.

At that time, one of our directors will be stepping down from her position after completing her term. This will leave us with a total of three openings on the Board of Directors to be filled by new leaders keen on contributing to soccer in the Comox Valley.

These positions include:

If you have any interest in these areas, you are encouraged to contact myself, the club or any of our directors in the coming weeks. Job descriptions for these positions are specific and we can go over with you exactly what is involved. It is the dedication of our membership that enables everyone to enjoy soccer in the best way possible.

Hart returns as interim head coach of Canada

bc soccer logoStephen Hart, who led Canada to the semifinals of the 2007 Gold Cup, will return as manager of the team through the end of the year, the CSA announced Friday. "I've been asked to step in on interim basis and to look after the team for the Gold Cup and whatever other projects there are for 2009," Hart said during a media conference call. The 49-year-old Hart, who will continue in his existing role as the Canadian Soccer Association's technical director, fills the coaching void left after Dale Mitchell was fired in March. Canada, ranked 89th by FIFA, failed to advance past the semifinal round of World Cup qualifying, going winless in six matches including four losses. Hart was the first assistant coach on the men's national team. This stint will be the second for Hart, who was interim head coach between 2006 and 2007 after Frank Yallop resigned to coach the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

u17Canada's men's U-17 team has arrived in Tijuana, Mexico before the 2009 CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship. Canada faces Honduras at 13.30 Pacific time on Tuesday 21 April, the opening match of the tournament. The group's other two opponents, USA and Cuba, kick off at 16.00 Pacific. Canada then faces USA on Thursday 23 April and Cuba on Saturday 25 April. The top-two teams in the group advance to the semi-final and qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009. The cross-over semi-final stage features a Group A team against a Group B team (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico or Trinidad & Tobago). Canada will train one more time on Monday afternoon before getting its final sleep before the big Tuesday opener.
