Select Player of the Month

Congratulations to Aaron Simmonds for being the "select player of the month" for June. Aaron plays for the U13 Boys coached by Garry DeWitt and Ian MacLean. Aaron has shown real determination in every game, and has developed in to one of our stalwart defenders. He attacks the ball, has great position, and he is good in the air with his head. Well done, Aaron. Keep it up!

Can't say enough about you!

Successful Wind Up!
Another season of house soccer has come to a successful ending. The beautiful weather was a major contributing factor. Thank you to the countless volunteers who helped to make everything run so smoothly. Thanks to those helping out with fall registration, with the equipment return and as well with the concession stand, (in particular, Mike, Matt, Pat & Carolyn). As well, a big thanks goes to Jennie Stinson, and Tracy and Stephen Caissie with Tim Horton's who provided those fabulous medals, water bottles and Timbits to the Bambinos, Micros and U7/8 Boys and Girls. You guys rock! Thanks as well to Cheri and Lorraine to keeping it all together.

Thanks to Brad Wood! Brad is stepping down after a long run of volunteer service to the club in the capacity of division manager culminating with the U11/12G's division. Thanks for your long-standing contribution to the club, Brad.

Volunteer positions are still available to manage the Micros, U7/8G, and U11/12G divisions. Please contact Matthew at mjblecha@gmail.com if you would like to manage one of these divisions.

Health and fitness for the female football player
Women's football is allegedly the fastest growing sport on the planet. The FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007 was therefore an ideal occasion to provide players with a personal health guide for the beautiful game.
The myths and prejudices surrounding women playing football are manifold, as are the risks and benefits for the health of female players. Unfortunately, objective data on these issues are still scarce, as most of the research is carried out on men. Consequently, most of the scientific advances in the women's game so far have been based on research directed at men.
The FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) therefore decided to review and summaries current scientific knowledge on the health issues concerning women players. To review their findings click here. For the full pdf copy of the study click here.

Date to Remember: Saturday June 20th

Soccer DayFor the 3rd consecutive year CBC will host "Soccer Day in Canada" (SDIC). The all day coverage on June 20th celebrates the beautiful game and provides a snapshot of  the sport's growing popularity in Canada from soccer pitches across the country. Featured coverage includes updates from the 4th Annual More Sports World Mini Soccer Jam in Vancouver, BC. For more information on Soccer Day in Canada, click here.
