The 2022/23 Competitive (formally labelled 'Select') Program is now open for registration ( Please see the FAQs below for further details:

What is the Competitive Program?
The Competitive Program or Competitive Stream is for players that want to commit more time and effort to training and playing. Teams typically train 2x per week and play a game on the weekend. For U12 & U13 players this program runs from the end of August to the middle of March. For the U14+ players it runs from the end of August through June (and potentially longer if teams qualify for Provincials). These teams compete in the 'Upper Island Soccer Association' league and play against teams across the North Island (Nanaimo, Powell River, Campbell River, etc.). There may also be some opportunities to compete against teams from the Lower Island (through interlock games and in the A-Cup) and play in various tournaments.

Who is the Competitive Program for?
As mentioned above, the Competitive Program is for players that want to commit more time to their development and play for longer periods. Comox Valley United is committed to including as many players as possible that want to play in this environment. We want to meet players where they are at and support them through their development accordingly. In addition, players that are aspiring to play in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) level in future years should register for this program as it will help best prepare them to make the jump into the higher level of programming.

How do players get selected/identified?
CVUSC has committed to no longer using formal 'trials/evaluations/placements' for the Competitive Program. The reasons for this include:
  1. Reduces stress and anxiety to players
  2. Commitment to including and servicing as many players as possible within our programming
  3. Allow players to play at the level of play that they desire to play at
  4. CVUSC Technical Staff and Coaches are constantly monitoring and evaluating players in their own environment (VYSL or Competitive)
CVUSC is committed to keeping as many players playing as possible and placing players in the most appropriate environments. This being said, please be aware that there are various constraints and team formation requires numerous factors to be considered. For more information on this, please visit:
